As a member of the Huawei-UGL JV team, produced Site Reference Designs for site selection,
worked with subcontractor Longmont on power and induction studies, worked with
subcontractor Roam in monopole design, worked with Huawei team and the client (PTA) on
Backhaul Transmission Network Design, to ensure constructability, safety and architecture
issues were fully addressed and to minimise cost and risk to UGL.

  • Technical management of all communications radio site/structure sharing applications, including structural assessments, shelter location, AC power supply and earthing issues. Also includes removal of site sharer’s infrastructure at end of requirement.
  • Management of joint owned communications infrastructure (49 radio sites) on the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline (DBNGP) with DBP.
  • Management of Nextgen and Uecomm use of Western Power’s Perth Fibre Network Emtelle Blown fibre infrastructure, including legal and contractual issues.
  • Manage separation process with Verve Energy (formerly Western Power Generation Branch) with respect to communications assets, to separate or retire all shared assets.

Ensured quality of all civil works, managed contractors in project manager’s absence.

Planning of all new Western Power Recloser SCADA communications bases - reviewed annually

Coverage prediction studies, site selection, co-siting with Telstra or other entities. Produced
plan for AA2 regulatory period (2009-2011) for Perth Metro and WA Country sites (24 in total).

Vendor selection for DWDM and SDH equipment. Design and Factory acceptance testing of the
Marconi (now Ericsson) Solstis (UPLx) DWDM system.

Buildings and Power

Specification, design and quality assurance of all repeater buildings, DC power and
Transmission equipment. Includes alarm extensions, solar powered sites, acceptance of works.

Service Commissioning

Commissioning of all new customer services in all states for IP1. Formally trained by Marconi in
MV36/38 (Service On Inventory) and SDH and DWDM products.
